Feeling the thoughts

Give with your heart and you shall receive

I went to church on Sunday… and it was a youth church thing and it was so different from what I expected. I actually had fun. We sang and parts of the bible were read out loud and explained. One thing stuck with me because I have always said it, When you give, give because you want to and not because you expect something back in return. One of the speakers told us a story of a Noble man and a Peasant.

A peasant is on his farm harvesting his vegitables when he comes across the best carrot he has ever grown. He takes the carrot to the King and tells him “This is the best carrot I have ever grown and I want to give it to you to show you how much I appreciate being in your kingdom”. The King in return says “Isn’t your farm the one next to mine?” and the peasant says “Yes”. The King then tells the peasant that he can have his land as well. The peasant thanks the King and goes home. A nobleman is watching the whole thing and goes home and grabs his best horse in hopes the king will give him something as well. He gives the King the horse and the King says “Thank you” and walks away. The King then turns around to face the nobleman who is still waiting there in confusion and the King says “You expected me to give you something because you gave me your best horse but I can’t do that because you didn’t give me the horse, you gave yourself the horse”.

And the story ended there and basically the point of the story is that giving something because you want to help a person out or because it feels right is a good thing when you do it from the kindness of your heart and not because you want to get ‘browny’ points or get a favor in return.

I give alot and have never expected the favor to be returned. But I get angry when you ask someone to do something nice for you or do a favor for you and they agree but there are invisible strings attached. Why can’t people help each other out because they are nice and kind and not because they want something back some day?
